What We Do
make a difference in the lives of people with mental health
Our Activities
Workshops & Seminars
These are organized to address mental health awareness, prevention and public enlightenment. It is believed that improving the knowledge of individuals on mental health issues will positively affect their attitudes and practices. Groups targeted include: NGO’s, primary health care centers, schools, general medical practitioners, corporate organizations (with special offers on the mind care tips and corporate mental health support and trainings).
School Mental Health Programs
As part of our activities we visit schools within the state educating them about mental health, substance abuse prevention and how to be mentally healthy. We have been involved in regular school lectures and workshops in several public schools in Lagos, and we have provided expert consultancy regarding referral and guidance regarding mental health issues in schools we have been interacting with.
Advocacy
This effort is aimed at adding to the voices that help in reducing stigma towards the mentally ill and also targeted at positive policy changes to favour the mental health of the general populace. Public lectures and school awareness programs are targeted at these. Reviews of in appropriate mental health laws are also the focus of our campaigns and a drive for Subsidy of costs of newer drugs will be advocated.
Support Groups
Encourage forum where relations of patients may come together to garner support; and encouragement from others in similar conditions. This will also educate these relations of these people on the nature of the illnesses and encourage that professional advice be sought if necessary.
Care
Helplines or contact numbers for counseling and support are provided on request. In addition subsidized financial assistance will be offered where deemed necessary to indigent patients. There will be a program targeted at removing vagrant women and their children off the streets as they represent a vulnerable group at risk of abuse , sexually or otherwise, while wandering aimlessly. This will be done in collaboration with existing government facilities.
Research
To add to the body of knowledge that ultimately promotes better mental health for the general public, by providing evidence that may influence policy making process.
